Security and surveillance – improving safety
As the number of camera-based systems for security and surveillance grows, information must be more accurate. PMD-based systems provide precise, reliable data. As the information delivered by a PMD sensor is not distorted by shadowing effects (or other interference), no false objects are detected. This is one of the main problems of conventional camera systems, often resulting in inaccurate measurements and other errors.
The robust object-detection features of a PMD-based system are a vast improvement on conventional solutions. PMD-based systems are already being used in the retail market, in stores and malls, for example, enabling more reliable people counting.
Further applications include:
- People counting and movement analysis
- In the retail sector
- At trade shows, airports, and railway stations
- In public buildings
- Performance monitoring of sales activities; resource planning and monitoring
- Security and access-control solutions and emergency systems
- Biometric systems, e.g. facial recognition
